off to a hot start.
My goodness. Nothing like a solid week of near triple digits to kick off the school year. The heat has been oppressive. That said the kids have done a great job keeping it together in our fan cooled classrooms. Only a couple have actually melted;) Despite the heat, the art learning is off to a great start in room 18. This year, like the past couple years, I did a collaborative project with my 3rd, 4th, and 4th graders the first week. I meet with each of the classes for an abbreviated lesson…

First day fun
We are back!!! Actually, we have been back several weeks and the days are flying by. I always struggle with what to do with my students on the first day of art. I, obviously, cover rules and procedures but then what? I like to do something quick and fun to get them excited about the year. This time I decided to have my third, fourth, and fifth graders create a collaborative wall hanging to fill our stark new year walls. I quickly shared some weavings from Central America and we looked at…
HugeDomains.com
My students just completed another "free time" activity. If students finish early or are waiting for something to dry I asked them to sift through magazines and cut out the letters A-R-T. It was amazing how many times they found those letters all together! A couple of students volunteered to…
Sneak Peek @ Art Room Mural and Collaborative Circle Paintings
I am surprised that I am up posting right now as today was an exhausting day. The kind of day I would not trade for anything but I am tired. The art room was double booked all day today and will be again tomorrow to make sure that all of my 1-5 grade artists are able to meet Will "Kasso" Condry, Muralist, to view him painting a mural in the art room "live" and to participate in a collaborative circle painting project that I am running. Busy, busy, busy. All that were in the art room today…

Dali's Moustache
Painted Kandinsky Quilt - A student makes a square and helps with the border.
use teachers hand and have kids make hearts with thumb/fingerprints? could have kids use different shades of green for leaves & have each use a different color to put their mark in the tree? could have key for colors at bottom of picture as seen in other projects OR have kids write their name on the "flower"
