“The Book of Hours for the Rite of Paris” was made by three people. Book Of Hours, Manuscript, 16th Century, Les Oeuvres, Allusion, Vintage World Maps, Masterpiece, Gothic, Livres
A stunning manuscript on parchment from around 1500.
The owner bought the manuscript, which includes 17 paintings of significant quality, in Southwestern France from a secondhand shop in 1999. The contents are a colorful, both figuratively and metaphorically, combination of #Gothic, #Classical, and #Biblical references: extracts from the Gospels appear alongside instructions of prayer and allusions, if not direct appellations, to certain saints. Stylistically, the book is similar to works produced by 16th-century #Paris workshops.
The volume has a white calfskin binding Historian, Rare, Jean Paul, Poet, Swiss, Books, Stone
Rare Ronsard Book
This rare find includes two significant works by the famed French poet Pierre de Ronsard (1524-1585) in the one octavo volume: “The First Four Books of the Odes” (Paris, 1555) and “Le Cinquième des Odes” (Paris, 1553). Estimated at between €40,000 and €50,000, the book comes from the extensive collection of Swiss literature historian, Jean-Paul Barbier-Mueller (1930-2016).
