Traditional Armenian headgear for women, early century. The more gold coins you have on your clothes the richer you are. They were usually used for currency and a personal bank for women.

Adorned with goldwork embroidery (in ‘Maraş işi’-technique) on silk.  Trousers and vest were purchased in Bursa in 1988.  (Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).

A traditional festive (‘summer’) costume from the Konya province.  Late-Ottoman urban fashion, end of 19th century.  With an ‘üçetek’ (robe with three panels) and an ‘arkalık’ (triangular waistcloth) in silk discontinuous (‘broché’) brocade.  They date, as well as the jewelry, from 1875-1900, or earlier.
