Ceramic figurine representing a Maya noblewoman from Jaina, Campeche, Late Classic AD 600-900, Grand Museum of the Mayan World in Merida, Yucatan. Jaina served as an elite Maya burial site, and is notable for the high number of fine ceramic figurines excavated there. The women of the nobility, seem to have shared religious and / or political functions with their husbands, and some of them were even shamans, scribes and rulers. © Marcin Latka #mexico #precolumbian #mayan #clay #huipil #headdress
