Hand-embroidered Kashmir shawl mantle, The brilliantly hued mantle was fashioned from a hand-embroidered Indian Kashmir shawl. Lined with red satin and trimmed with variegated chenille fringe, the mantle closes in front with concealed hooks.
In the UK, fashionable clothing for the masses became possible only with the growth of a textile industry, especially at Paisley, Scotland which became famous for shawls woven in a distinctive pattern. These gave Paisley pattern its name.
