Polaroid SX-70 sequence for Fox Talbot Exhibition. For the July 1989 “Celebration of Photography” exhibition at Lacock Abbey ~ which was held on the 150th Anniversary of the discovery of photography in 1839 by William Henry Fox Talbot and his use of a negative to make more than one print - I was asked by the Curators to make a print for the “Window” theme... the subject of the very first photograph by Fox Talbot. Up in Smoke? Many domestic houses built nowadays don’t have any chimneys. How unfortunate… uniform looks and lack of individual character do not please the eye! These are just a few of many I have seen and photographed in France, England and Wales. Image © 2010 Ed Buziak / Alamy

Firework Flashes of Inspiration... I’ve seen people using flash to take photographs of fireworks… err, that’s trying to light light with light! The best method is to set the camera shutter to “B” and press the shutter button as soon as you see a star-shell exploding. Usually the initial bang is followed by multiple mini-explosions with traces and trails of sparks and streaks which can be enhanced by jiggling the camera around, or twisting it in a circular motion. Weather-vanes are one of my favorite subjects... being very photogenic, seen frequently on many buildings and not too difficult to frame in the camera at the telephoto end of a zoom lens.. here’s a small selection from the UK and France where they are called “girouettes”. Image © Ed Buziak / Alamy

Numb with Numbers... One of several projects I started about 30 years ago was to photograph visually stimulating numbers… and make a sequence from one to a hundred. Not only did I not complete the sequence, but I couldn’t find all that many visually exciting single numbers to even come close to completing the sequence. I’m not sure why this is… perhaps there’s too much uniformity in the modern world! Image © Ed Buziak / Alamy

Comic faces... a few examples from several sheets of basic ideas I had back in 2006 for a children’s book which had been written but needed re-illustrating. However, the project never got off the ground with the original author… so I’m thinking of writing in a different vein so as to explore other possibilities with these graphics. Olivetti Valentine… I wrote my first book on one in the late 1970s.

WORK: Sottsass' notoriety grew as he designed the Valentine typewriter, rethinking the use of design in office furniture with popular culture. This image is Olivetti Valentine Poster designed by Ettore Sottsass for the Olivetti Valentine - 1969

Wonderful graphic… but, inches or centimeters? Apparently, Condomania, based in California, makes tailor-made condoms according to size!
