This is the Angel Oak Tree,  in Charlston, an enormous live oak tree named after it's previous owners Martha and Justin Angel. The tree is thought to be over 1500 years old. Much like the Grand Canyon, photos can't really convey the size of this enormous tree.  A person standing in front of the tree would stand about halfway up the trunk. The Angel Oak is 65 feet tall and over 25 feet around the trunk...

This tree is over 1400 years old, and is on Wadmalaw Island, SC (just south of Charleston, SC and not far from Kiawah Island, SC). It is currently under threat from a developer intent on building a residential community on/near this location.
