Found in 1940 in a complex of caves in southwestern France, Lascaux is renowned for its Palaeolithic cave paintings. Speculated to be up to 20,000 years old, the paintings are mostly of large animals which are evidenced to have lived in the area at the time. These paintings are relevant to today because it shows that just as in the present time, people liked to be creative and document the things of their time, which is something that separates us from our even more ancient ancestors.
