Château de Chinon. Town dates to Roman times due to strategic position along Vienne River. Chateau dates to 5th century fortifications. Henry II loved Chinon & added impressive, massive fortifications. He imprisoned Eleanor here for a while after her rebellion, and he died here in 1189.   Philippe Auguste later won Chinon from John. King Charles VII and Joan d'Arc began their dance of fate here. Chateau Chinon underwent considerable refurbishment from 2003-10
