Researchers at Brookhaven National Laboratory have developed a technique that could help incorporate ionic liquids into batteries, supercapacitors, and transistors. They used photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) to image in real time how ions in an ionic liquid interacted with two gold electrodes. This technique could help identify which specific ionic liquid, out of the thousands of options, would be most suitable for a certain application.
