Gustave Caillebotte - Impressionist

Gustave Caillebotte was born in 1848 to an upper-class Parisian family. He qualified as a lawyer and engineer but left to become a painter. He acquired a property on the banks of the Seine near Argenteuil in 1881 and ceased showing his work at age 34 then devoted himself to gardening and to building and racing yachts. Never married, he appears to have had a serious relationship with Charlotte Berthier. He died while working in his garden in 1894 at age 45.
