When I taught second grade, I discovered that my kiddos did not really understand the difference between the words "dissolve," "melt," and "thaw." So we tried it out, and then labeled it. Then, I passed out an ice cube to everyone, and they let it melt in their hands! I think that they understood it much better after that! Science should always be as hands-on and visual as possible, I think! Teaching Second Grade, I Passed, Kindergarten, About Me Blog, Science, Let It Be, Words, Kindergartens, Preschool

Hopefully this simple, yet fun, experiment has convinced them of the merits of soap. The experiment is meant to simulate how soap helps to get rid of germs.
