The Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus is one of the most important temples of ancient Rome. Dedicated in 509, the year of the founding of the Republic, it featured a transitional architectural style between the frontally-oriented Etruscan design and the full peristyles of Greek temples. At least as interesting is that this picture shows an early vision of Rome before it was a major city. Eventually the Capitoline hill would be overrun with buildings.
