Whiteboard Journals • Desks & Dreams

For my Publishing class, I get my students in the mood for writing by doing a daily journal prompt. So far, I’ve borrowed a lot of these ideas from Pinterest, but my students really enjoy seeing what the question and illustration will be for the day. I try to set aside some time to doodle (which ends up calming me as well) each day to make the writing prompt fun and colorful. Here are some of them so far! It ends up being a great use of my whiteboard and starts the class off with reflection…

Happy Saturday Friends! How is your weekend going so far? Today marks the first day of my fall break and I am so excited to enjoy a week off! I have two days of a digital leadership conference, plenty of TpT things to catch up on, sleeping in, going to the beach, catching up with friends and family and a ton of yard work. Now that I think of it, that doesn't sound like much of a break. I wanted to start of my break by sharing with you something my 5th graders look forward to every day! I…

Erasing Meanness

When my kids came back from spring break this week, they were greeted with shampooed carpets, new collaboration desk clusters, fully stocked common desks, rotated book titles, and one less fish. I forgot to bring back Skittles, our classroom fish, who was still sitting on the entertainment center at home. It was very much a fresh start for everyone after the winter grind that brought long streaks of indoor recess, multiple rounds of state and district testing, and a consistent escalation of…

One of the best reasons to homeschool is the flexibility. We love the option to take off days when we need to, and the ability to make up days on the weekends if need be. This is how homeschooling seamlessly flows into living our lives. Several years ago I read on a homeschool blog about …
