The tempestuous history of Charlotte Perriand’s coveted Nuage cabinet

Founded in 2012 by Adam Lindemann, Venus Over Manhattan is dedicated to curated exhibitions both historic and contemporary, which cast a unique and often iconoclastic view on the work of established artists or artists whose works have been somewhat overlooked.

Cassina has produced a reissue of French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand's modular, Nuage à Plots bookcase with curved aluminium elements.

A pair of rare and early Charlotte Perriand 'CP1' wall appliques. Typical for the early versions, the lamps have an adjustable shade with a thick black and white glass enamel and a nickel plated fitting. The lamps are from the first apartments of the Arc 1600 ski resort in Les Arcs (1967-69), built by a team of architects, including Perriand.

An exhibition at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, in Paris, tracks how, against all odds, Charlotte Perriand became one of the most important architects and designers of the 20th century. By Alice Rawsthorn.
