The Paper Wasp, Polistes exclamans, so called because of the paper like material it produces from plant stems and dead wood which they chew up and mix with their saliva to make their nests ( a similar way to how we make paper – except for the chewing and saliva, of course, LOL). They will defend the nests if attacked and search for nectar for themselves and caterpillars for young. Wasp brood can be eliminated by birds or ants. They are also often called ‘Guinea Wasps’.
