In 1905 the Proclamation of General von Trotha was made to the Nama people of Namibia, Africa. It stated if they did not surrender they would suffer the same fate of as the Herero people. More that 10,000 Nama and 60,000 Herero were massacred between 1904-1907 by Germans. This tradgedy has been called the first genocide of the twentieth century.

The Herero and Namaqua Genocide is considered to have been the first genocide of the century. It took place between 1904 and 1907 in German South-West Africa (modern day Namibia), during the scramble for Africa.

When the term Holocaust is used, most people think of Jews. In reality, there were many other groups of people persecuted. In addition to Jews, the targeted groups included: Poles and some.

Australia Shark Island Concentration Camp, also known as Death Island, was essentially the equivalent to a Nazi death camp. Herero and Nama people were sent here, although the camp consisted of mostly Nama due to geographical reasons, which made Shark Island a more efficient place to enslave the Nama. The number of people who died there is unknown.
