Dress, F.Casas Puig, Terrassa, Spain, 1900-1909. Black silk skirt with velvet ribbons embroidered with silk chenille yarn. White lace collar covering neckline. Bodice is black silk covered w/net embroidered w/chenille yarn; it forms 2 bands across chest back. Short train. Bottom decorated w/rhinestones, embroidery, velvet ribbons. High waist attaches to bodice with hooks, hidden by chenille embroidery, making it look like 1 piece. Textile Museum Documentation Center, Terassa (IMATEX)

Circa 1905 tea dress made from white cotton dotted swiss, the dress is elaborately embellished with lace, embroidered cut work, ruffles, and rows of narrow tucks so beloved by the Edwardians. It closes in back with loops and small mother-of-pearl buttons. The puffed sleeves have inner cords to hold them in place. The skirt is longer and fuller in back, forming a small train.
