1750-1760, hat made from split straw plait in a chequered pattern of black and natural straw, trimmed with a fancy plait just inside the brim, and there is a garland of split straw cord and tassles around the crown. There is a band of macrame straw braid (possibly Swiss) with split straw decorations around the brim edge. The black elasticated tape is a later addition. Date uncertain. Could be Swiss. Pink silk on buckram foundation, embroidered with twisted and flat straw in floral lace motif; ribbon hatband with bow embroidered as hat. Pink silk brim bottom and crown lining.

Straw hat, The Netherlands, 18th century. The huge brim plaited with a coarse straw, a finer plaited straw crown and inner brim, of oval shape with flattened back brim, the underside with radiating spine of coarser plaited straw.

Antique bonnet with huge brim, made of plaited straw. Would be decorated with chintz cotton.
