Ben Scaman was born in Claresholm, Alberta, on January 23, 1920 to Garnet Scaman and Lodema Peirce, Claresholm became the site of a British Commonwealth Air Training base in 1941, but Ben had already joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940, at the age of twenty. He flew Spitfires with RAF Squadrons 165 and 610. He turned 97 in 2017 and still lives in his own home in Banff, Alberta. For more: www.elinorflorence.com/blog/rcaf-spitfire
