*ITALY ~ Marcus Aurelius: Louvre/NY Met.  Roman marble portrait of Marcus Aurelius on loan from the Louvre at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (inv.L.2008.49) Found in 1674 at an Imperial villa near Rome (Acqua Traversa). This portrait has been dated by the Louvre to c.170 CE. Restored by: C. Devos in 1006.

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus, adopted son of Hadrian. His 'Meditations', written in Greek while on campaign between 170 and is a journal of disconnected thoughts on his personal journey in Stoic philosophy.
