Octavius Augustus (27 BC-14 AD). Glyptothek, Munich. Sculpture known as the "Augusto Bevilacqua", characterized by the Civic Crown which bears the first emperor as "Pater Patriae". The first exemplar of this model of bust was carved in the year 27 b.C. and shows the emperor at age 36, when he was proclaimed Augustus by the Roman Senate. It is one of the most copied busts during the reign of Augustus and even after his death.
Constantin Brâncuși was a Romanian-born sculptor who made his career in France. As a child he displayed an aptitude for carving wooden farm tools. Formal studies took him first to Bucharest, then to Munich, then to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
