Carved and painted sperm whale whirligig made by Lincoln Ceely (1865-1950). Ceely was a well known Nantucket cabinet & clock maker who also painted and carved. Around the turn of the 19th century he was one of the carvers of the Sailor-Boy whirligigs. 17" long, Nantucket, c.1940. Great original painted surface, small chip missing from tail $2500.
Hand-carved Sperm Whale Whirligig based on an original Nantucket antique whirligig made by Lincoln Ceely. Made by a local wood carver on Cape Cod. Mount on a fence post, deck rail, or anywhere you get a nice breeze for the tail to spin. Carved from rot resistant White Cedar and fitted with stainless steel hardware. Left unpainted to weather to a silver grey. Measures 34" long.
