A Southern German battle flail   circa 1520/30  Iron, polygonal striking head on a riveted chain. The forged twisted iron shaft retaining the original leather covering with cord underlay and a pommel of a two-handed sword of ca. 1520. Patinated, with vestiges of red lead coating. Shaft length 55 cm.  Rare example of a flail weapon from the period of the Peasants' War.
