JOSEPH-HENRI PONCHIN (1897-1962) CAMBODGE ANGKOR / L'INDOCHINE FRANÇAISE. 1931. D'Extreme-Orient, Hanoi. Printed in Hanoi during the height of French colonialism, this poster is one in an exceptional series of Art Deco travel posters for Indochina designed by Ponchin. The French took control of Indochina (Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam) in 1863 and effectively stayed in power until 1953. Here, the artist depicts the wonders of the ancient Angkor temples in the jungles of Cambodia.
