Artist... Christian Seybold
Christian Seybold, (German, 1697-1768). A native of Mainz, Christian moved to Vienna in 1715, becoming painter to the court of Empress Maria Theresa. Little else is known about him. Probably self-taught, Seybold was influenced by a younger fellow-painter, Balthasar Denner (1685-1749), whose self-portraits were popular at the courts of Germany. The work of both artists is astonishingly detailed and meticulously accurate, reproducing every crease of the skin and each individual hair.
